Cut up aloe for homemade aloe vera products

How To Make Homemade Aloe Vera Products: Three easy DIYs

Homemade aloe vera products can provide the same moisturising, soothing effects as storebought products, minus all the plastic and added chemicals. Aloe vera offers tons of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, phytosterols, and polysaccharides. It has vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as potassium, magnesium, and zinc. This makes it great for calming face and body products.

Soothing homemade aloe vera products

Before you get started, it’s important to note that aloe vera has a yellowish sap that will appear when you cut into it. This sap can be irritating to sensitive skin, so it should be removed. When you cut the aloe leaves off of the plant, cut them at the base, at an angle. Then, place the leaves cut side down in a jar or vase. Allow them to sit for about 15 minutes – you will see that a yellow-ish sap has appeared on the cut. Wipe the sap away, then you’re ready to begin.

Aloe vera gel

This aloe vera gel is perfect for applying to damn skin to soothe and moisturize.

You will need:

  • 5 leaves from an aloe vera plant
  • 2 teaspoons vitamin E oil

Method:

Cut the aloe leaves in half, lengthwise, then use a knife to cut the clear gel off the leaves. Put the gel in a bowl and mix in the vitamin E oil, stirring thoroughly. Place the gel in a jar with a tightly-fitting lid. Keep the gel in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

If you have sensitive skin, these cubes are awesome to keep on hand and rub on the skin after a bout of sun exposure.

Aloe vera and lavender cubes

You will need:

  • An ice cube tray
  • A blender
  • 5 leaves from an aloe vera plant
  • 1 teaspoon lavender

Method:

Cut the leaves in half lengthwise, then use a spoon or sharp knife to scrape the gel off the leaves. Add the gel to a blender (or put in a jar and use an immersion blender) and pulse for a minute, ensuring that no chunks are left behind. Next, add in the lavender and blend again to combine. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and store it in the freezer.

Aloe & honey face mask

This mask is super moisturizing and great for dry skin.

You will need (single mask):

  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel (use a small leaf if using fresh)
  • 2 tsp warmed honey (raw honey is best for skin)

Method:

Mix ingredients thoroughly in a bowl and apply to clean skin. Leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse off with warm (not hot!) water.
