Template letter on non-recyclable plastic pollution

Dear {X Company*},

I am writing to you because of my concern that your company is contributing to global plastic pollution.

Today I // came across // received // bought // an item from your company only to find that the product // packaging uses non-recyclable plastic.

Plastic pollution is a pressing environmental issue. As someone who actively avoids all single-use plastic, I am shocked by the lack of consideration for your environmental impact.

We live in a world where one garbage truck of plastic goes into the ocean every minute. The bare minimum a company can do is make a product out of plastic that is commonly and easily recyclable. Otherwise, it will end up in the landfill for up to 1000 years, where it breaks down into hazardous microplastics. Will you commit to championing both product and packaging that ensure we have a safer and cleaner future?

Public concern for protecting the people, places and things we love from plastic pollution is growing. It’s no longer acceptable for companies to produce products without regard for the end of the packaging //product’s life cycle. Therefore, I would urge you to change your packaging // product. Until you clean up your waste impact, I will no longer be shopping with you.

I request that you immediately alert or forward this letter to those with the power to make changes within the organisation. And require an explanation as to why you currently sell a non-recyclable product.

I await your response. Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

[your name]
