Have you ever tried plastic free mouthwash? If not, now is the time! There are more plastic free personal care items on the market today than ever before – and plastic free mouthwash is one of the easiest to try.
Why switch to plastic free mouthwash?
Personal care, and especially oral hygiene products, are often made of plastic. Think about your bathroom – how much of your shampoo, conditioner, styling products, face wash (we could go on forever) is encased in some sort of plastic?
We estimate that over one billion plastic toothbrushes end up in the landfill every year. Now think about how much mouthwash you go through each year – how many big plastic containers are you sending to the landfill each year? Even if you try to recycle them, it’s unlikely that the plastic bottles will actually be recycled. Just over 8% of recycling is actually recycled.
It’s easy to avoid the issue altogether – choose a plastic free mouthwash instead.

Mouthwash is quite easy to make at home as well. Just mix ½ cup of water with two drops of essential oil – peppermint is great. To make a whitening mouthwash, just add 2 tsp of baking soda. Try getting the baking soda at a bulk store to avoid unnecessary plastic waste! Use 2-4 teaspoons of the formula at a time, just like you would normal mouthwash. Store in a glass jar and shake before each use.
